Football

Football, in most parts of the world, refers to a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net. It is known as soccer in some countries, particularly in the United States and Canada, to distinguish it from their own version of football (which is a different sport). The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, and is governed by laws laid out by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Players primarily use their feet to move the ball, but they can also use any part of their body except their arms and hands; only the goalkeeper is permitted to handle the ball within their penalty area. Football is characterized by its emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and skill. It is one of the most popular sports globally, with a vast following and professional leagues, culminating in significant tournaments like the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League. The term “football” can also refer to various other games, depending on the context and region, including American football and Australian rules football, but in a global context, it most commonly refers to the association football (soccer) variant.
